S.C. MARTENS S.A. is a private company. Before privatization it was called Galati Beer Factory and after 1990, S.C.RO BEER S.A.

BROUWERIJ MARTENS n.v. from Bocholt, Belgium bought the S.C. RO BEER S.A. interests from FPS, the government representative, on 8th of May, 1998. On 29th of August the shareholders decided to increase registered capital and to change the company name into S.C. MARTENS S.A.

The shareholders structure resulted after the registered capital raise is:

- BROUWERIJ MARTENS n.v. Belgium 67,67%
- SIF Moldova 7,62%
- other shareholders  24,71%

BROUWERIJ MARTENS n.v., which owns the majority of stocks is the fourth beer producer in Belgium with a tradition of eight generations since 1758. After buying another beer factory in Czech Republic in 2000, we can speak about “ The Martens Group” because it owns the majority of stocks in these factories. The group has a production capacity of 2.5 millions of hectoliter each year.

Bringing know-how and having a vast experience producing beer, BROUWERIJ MARTENS n.v. had a key role in the later technical and technological development of the factory from Galati through its capital contribution as well as in developing new products through know-how and technical assistance. Today our beer meets all the standards of the European Union as a result of the investments, license contracts and strict quality control.

TECHNOLOGY AND INVESTMENT

The company has one of the most performing plants in Romania.

Brew house (boiling plant) is in our opinion the key to a beer of quality. It was made by HUPPMAN, Germany. The boiling sector is fully automatic using SIMTIC S5 and S7 programmable automatons made by SIMENS. The users dialogize through a Pro-Face touch screen console.

The fermenting sector knew major changes consisting in replacing all old technological pipes with stainless steel ones. Swiss company RADIX A.G. delivered the protection for the maturation and fermentation plant. There were installed a modern cooling systems (plate heat exchange) and a centralized CIP installation.

Filtering sector was updated with new high capacity equipment: Seitz Orion plate and frame filter, Schenk sterilizing and polishing filter as well as “in line” silt charge control apparatus.

We built a modern station for multiplication (pure yeast) for strict quality control of the used yeast and in order to keep the purity of the beer yeast sources delivered by BROUWERIJ MARTENS n.v.

Total value of the investments mentioned above and realized starting with November 1998 until December, 2002 raises up to 7 millions USD. The effects of the investments made by BROUWERIJ MARTENS n.v. are reflecting into the increase of  labor productivity, diminution of production cost and into the best quality of our products.
